New RoHS & WEEE Directives Affecting Athena European Reps & Distributors…

are being introduced by the European Union within all EU member countries to reduce the Environmental & Health impact from the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment at the end of their useful life.

RoHS: Restriction for Use of Certain Hazardous Substances

Directive 2002/95/EC: Mandatory EU Requirement July 1, 2006 to remove specified hazardous substances (lead, mercury, hexavalent, chromium, cadmium, PBB, and PBDE’s)

Note: Category 8, (Instruments and Medical Devices) and Category 9, (Monitoring and Control Instruments) as defined in Annex 1B of the WEEE directive will be exempt from the RoHS legislation.

WEEE: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Directive 2002/96/EC: Mandatory EU requirement effective June 2006 to meet specific targets on recycling products. Each product will have this symbol added to the existing serial tag.

This symbol indicates that all Athena products within the EU must not be placed in a “landfill” and a minimum amount of the components and material must be recycled at the end of the product’s life. Until it is resolved, WE RECOMMEND ALL ATHENA PRODUCTS BE RETURNED TO ATHENA AT THE END OF THEIR LIFECYCLE TO ENSURE THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF MATERIAL POSSIBLE CAN BE RECYCLED.
