BEDROS Hot Runner Control
Compact, robust, and deliver more functionality than standard medium-sized multi zone runnerless controls.
Industrial processes often need precision temperature control not only for manufacturing accuracy, but also to comply with regulations, so it is often critical that workpiece temperatures are kept within specific limits. This can be difficult to achieve in industrial plants where the operation of large machinery can cause fluctuations in the voltage supply. This is demonstrated in the example of resistive heaters where a variation of 10% in the supply voltage will generate a 20% variation in the power to the load, resulting in undesirable (and often damaging) temperature fluctuations.
Athena Controls’ SCR Power Controllers contain built in compensation that continue to apply stable power with superior linearity at the boundaries of the load, even during fluctuations in the supply. The result is a reliable, repeatable heating process and high quality end products compliant to demanding heat treatment standards.
Athena Controls offers two types of power controllers, namely Zero Voltage Switched Controllers and Phase Angle Fired Controllers. The 19Z and 39Z SCR Power Controllers are zero crossover fired, high-power solid state switched devices. Zero crossover firing eliminates the RFI (radio frequency interference) generation associated with mechanical relays. With zero crossover firing, the output appears as bursts of full sine waves of line voltage which provides excellent regulation to the load.
The 19P and 39P SCR Phase-Angle Fired Power Controllers turn on each SCR for a controlled portion of a half-cycle of the line voltage. The effective line voltage is determined by the portion of the line voltage delivered, which is proportional to the input control signal. Additionally, the voltage is regulated as the line voltage changes.
